Corporate Identity Consultants help their clients (mainly companies) to manage how they are perceived by the outside world and in particular, key stakeholder groups incuding customers, staff, legislators etc. Customer service, advertising, product performance, social responsiblity and others influence how an organisation is viewed. Identity consultants audit organisations, help them design their branding (logos etc) and help them to ensure they are viewed favourably.

Skill Requirements:
You will need excellent interpersonal skills - in particular to be inquisitive and to be a good listener. The ability to combine rational and creative thinking is also important.
Typical Career Path:
You will normally start out as a graduate and will need to accumulate a few years experience before specialising in corporate identity. At this point, you are likely to move to a specialist consulting company. This is the kind of career that suits being self employed but you will need a solid base of experience before being able to consult with credibility.
How to get into this career ?
Although most large organisations have an individual designated as the keeper of the corporate brand, most job opportunities will be in advertising or design agencies initially and then specialist branding and identity consultancies. People generally enter this career from backgrounds in Public relations, market research, advertising planning or business consulting.

Uni/College Requirements
Having a degree is not essential, but it is likely that you will struggle to quickly understand the business issues that a wide variety of clients face if you haven't studied. The good news is that you can enter this career with a wide variety of qualifications e.g. business studies, pure marketing qualifications as well as design qualifications.
